Carrier lookup guide
How to identify VoIP numbers
VoIP numbers use internet-based phone service instead of traditional landline switching. A carrier lookup may identify a number as VoIP when telecom data indicates the line is assigned through a VoIP provider.
Why VoIP status matters
VoIP numbers are common for businesses, call centers, remote teams, and personal apps. They are not automatically suspicious, but they are often checked during fraud screening because they can be easier to obtain than traditional numbers.
What to check
Look at the carrier, normalized carrier, caller name, and number behavior together. A VoIP label is more useful when combined with context such as whether the caller matches a known business or expected contact.
