CNAM guide
CNAM vs caller ID
Caller ID usually refers to the phone number presented with a call. CNAM refers to the caller name displayed for that number. They work together, but they are not the same data field.
A phone can show the number without showing a name. It can also show a name from local contacts, from a carrier lookup, or from a caller ID name database. That is why two people may see different names for the same incoming number.
Common display examples
A business number may show the company name, a mobile number may show wireless caller, and a toll-free number may show a generic toll-free label. If no name is available, the display may show unavailable or unknown.
Best use
Use CNAM as a helpful context clue. For high-risk decisions, combine it with other checks such as the carrier, line type, known business records, and whether the call behavior seems legitimate.
